about

‘Colourful Things’ radiates with a light-hearted, upbeat indie-rock energy, boasting glorious guitar riffs and endearing, conversational vocals.

Sonically, ‘Colourful Things’ drips with sunlight and joy, layered with an easygoing beat and moreish guitars. The chorus brings an addictive lyrical hook, delivered with frontman Connor Dougan’s cheerful vocal tone and sunny harmonies. A vivid, riff-filled guitar solo after the second chorus leads to a slight tempo change, bringing forth a shadow of melancholy like a cloud moving across the sun, before the song’s beaming energy returns in full force.

Despite the positive warmth emanating from this track, lyrically ‘Colourful Things’ contains a serious underlying message about substance abuse and the effect this has on oneself and the people around them. Dougan explains further:

"‘Colourful Things’ comes from a place where someone becomes unaware that their actions are causing damage to themselves and everyone around them. By choosing to have fun and go wild constantly it’s hard to decipher what’s right and wrong when you yourself are altered by substance. I wrote this track with a positive tune because I feel that these problems are often masked by the short high."

‘Colourful Things’ is out everywhere on July 2, and One More Weekend will be performing at their Single Launch on July 31.

lyrics

I’ve found myself in a spot like most
I swear I’ve been here before
We got caught going in the wrong direction
And now we’re hitting the floor hitting the floor

And my hair’s got its own control
Ohh yeah I’ll leave it all day long
If you know me that’s a lie I’ll spend hours at night
Getting it right, getting it right for you

All the colours are more colourful the sounds are so pristine
Speak up why wouldn’t you do this with me
I’ve found myself addicted to the things that I want not need
And I’ll tell the world that you’re the girl
That used to do drugs that used to drugs

Now I’m laying out alone on your front lawn
I swear I’ve been here before using all by myself
You won’t let me in through your front door no
Whats going on hey! there’s gotta be someone else

I mean it doesn’t make sense I know you
I don’t believe it’s true let me talk to you
Now I’m laying on the grass staring at the stars wondering who you are while he goes out with you

All the colours are more colourful the sounds are so pristine
Speak up why wouldn’t you do this with me
I’ve found myself addicted to the things that I want not need
And I’ll tell the world that you’re the girl
That used to do drugs that used to drugs
With me

I’m still laying out alone on your front lawn
I swear I’ve been here before
You won’t let me in through your front door
But I knew who you were before

One, Two, Three

All the colours are more colourful the sounds are so pristine
Speak up why wouldn’t you do this with me
I’ve found myself addicted to the things that I want not need
And I’ll tell the world that you’re the girl
That used to do drugs that used to drugs
With me

And I’m laying on the grass staring at the stars forgetting who you are while he goes out with you
